Who performs and hosts and how to watch

The Billboard Music Awards will help tie the bow in the 2022 awards season on Sunday night.

For the second year in a row, The Weeknd leads the nominations with 17 chances to win a trophy. His future tour partner, Doja Cat, is right behind him with 14 knots.

The two had a major year with super popular groups at Coachella last month.

Performance-wise, Machine Gun Kelly and Dan + Shay will step in in place of Red Hot Chili Pepper, who pulled out of the show due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Travis Scott and Morgan Wallen, who have been “cancelled” by many people over the past year, will also make their mainstream comeback.

As of 4 p.m. Friday, a Billboard poll shows fans are looking forward to Wallen’s performance the most.

Meanwhile, Shawn “Diddy” Combs, the show’s host, “requested” to see Scott perform on Sunday night.

Travis went through a tragedy, Morgan [used the N-word] While he was talking to his son. People make mistakes,” Dede Billboard said. “We now extend love and respect to everyone who has been injured or affected. It’s time for forgiveness.”

As for his musical number, the rapper promised “I’ll miss you”, “You’ll definitely see a step or two; all I have to do.”

How are the awards chosen?

This works a little differently, since there are no nominations from some controversial academies, but rather the commercial success of the musicians.

This year’s awards are based on the planned period from April 10, 2021 through March 26, 2022.

The finalists and winners are based on major fan interactions with music, including digital album and song sales, live broadcasts, radio broadcasts, and social engagement, that Billboard and its data partners track, including Luminate (formerly MRC Data).

Are there new categories?

There are five new categories this year. Four of them are based on Billboard’s first official world charts, and the other is Top Viral Song.

Ed Sheeran is a finalist in the four new world categories as an artist and for his song “Bad Habits”.
