The 2022 British Open odds: Surprising PGA picks, and predictions for the top-rated golfer who managed to win the Masters

Jon Ram battled for the final three rounds of last week’s Scottish Open, which created longer odds for the 2022 Open than the Spaniard usually has in major tournaments. He is 14-1 in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2022 British Open odds, putting him behind Rory McIlroy (9-1). Ram finished third in last year’s Open, should he be included in the 2022 Open’s pool? He also claimed a win earlier this season at the Mexican Open and placed 15th at the US Open.

Ram was the 2021 US Open champion and ranked number one in the world before last year’s Open. Can he regain the title against the loaded 2022 Open Stadium? Before signing up for the 2022 Open Picks or entering any of the PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see our PGA Tour predictions and betting tips from the golf form installed at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s ownership model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been super hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it’s up over $9,500 on your best bet since that point, tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Thomas in his best bet to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet was +1600, and for the entire tournament McClure’s best bet brought in close to $800. At the 2022 Masters, Model McClure was victorious in Scheffler’s first major championship win of his career before the weekend.

Additionally, McClure’s best push included Colin Morikawa’s straight win at the 2021 Open, even though he was shooting 40-1. The model was also throughout Ram’s (10-1) career major win at the 2021 US Open. Ram was two strokes away from the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still predicted him as the winner.

This same model has also had eight huge major contracts entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now with the 2022 British Open golf tournament fast approaching, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results are surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see the predicted leaderboard.

Best Predictions for the 2022 Open Championship

One huge surprise the model invites at the 2022 Open: Rory McIlroy, the 2022 British Open favorite at 9-1, failed to win it all and barely finished inside the top three. The 31-year-old Northern Irish has 35 combined wins on the PGA, European Tour and three major tournaments. He won the Open Championship in 2014 and finished third when it was held at St. Andrews in 2010.

He’s been competing in competitions on a regular basis, but inconsistent play continues to cost him titles. In the Big Three this season, he’s fired at least one round of 67 or less, but has also run at least one round of 73 or higher. The model invites him to fall short again, making him one of the favorites to fade into the 2022 British Open’s pool.

Another surprise: Will Zalatores, a 25-1 long shot, shoots hard for the title. It is a target for anyone looking for a huge paycheck. Zalatoris had to withdraw from the 2021 Open before the second round date due to injury. He was in contention after taking one card below 69 in his opening round during his first Open appearance. His success continued this season, as he lost a three-hole playoff to Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship before losing narrowly to Matthew Fitzpatrick at the US Open.

He also finished sixth in the Masters, so he now has six of the eight best places in his last eight majors. Zalatoris nearly broke into the top ten in the world rankings despite not having a PGA Tour title under his belt. He’s shown that he has what it takes to compete in every major tournament he participates in, making him a solid bet on long odds this weekend. See who chooses here.
