Nearly two decades after their last wedding date, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez finally tied the knot during an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas on Saturday, three months after announcing their second engagement in April.

As reports of their simple marriage began to surface on Sunday morning, Jennifer was quick to give her fans the inside scoop, writing in her exclusive newsletter that it was “the best wedding possible.”

Last night started with a plane to Vegas, we queued up for a license with four other couples, all made the same trip to the wedding capital of the world, began, explaining that the city’s infamous white church remained open for “a few minutes” past midnight closing time to facilitate it.

“With the best witnesses you could possibly imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our private vows in the chapel and gave each other the rings we’d wear for the rest of our lives,” Jennifer wrote.

“In the end it was the best wedding we could have imagined,” she said. “One we’ve been dreaming of for a long time and one that made it real (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, a pink convertible and each other) after a very, very long time finally.”

The sensational newsletter, which arrived in fan inboxes on Sunday afternoon, was decorated with behind-the-scenes photos of the night, including a selfie of the newlyweds, both dressed in white for the short but sweet ceremony.

To the astonishment of many longtime fans of J.Lo, the singer also confirmed that she had chosen to take Ben’s last name, and signed the letter: “With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”

Of course, the confirmation that she’s split from her famous last name has divided the internet, with plenty of social media users already experimenting with J.Aff as her new nickname.

Jennifer Lopez is an objectively better name than Jennifer Affleck. gf? no.

But Jen’s decision to go legal Affleck should come as no surprise, especially considering he’s been on the cards for nearly 20 years now.

In the unlikely event you need a reminder, Ben and Jennifer’s romance dates back to the early 2000s, cementing their status as one of Hollywood’s divorced couples.

With them being just as famous as they are today, Ben and Jane’s relationship was so publicized at this time — that the pressure led them to postpone their September 2003 wedding, just days before they were ready to walk down the aisle.

During the special – which aired just months before their surprise wedding was postponed – Jennifer was questioned by host Pat O’Brien about the possibility of changing her name.

“After you get married, what will your name be?” asked O’Brien while Jane was cooking next to him in the kitchen of the couple’s rented home at the time.

“Jennifer Lopez, but my name would obviously be Jennifer Affleck,” she replied with certainty.

When I then asked Pat what her famous nickname would become, the singer sarcastically said that the new surrogate doesn’t roll on his tongue quite as easily.

She said, “JF,” and pronounced it “dry.” “She doesn’t have the same ring,” she added with a laugh.

Now, nearly 20 years later, fans are feeling similar discussions, with many keen to see if JLo can finally make the transition into the JF era.

However, the clip back She seems to suggest that while she might be Affleck legally, Jennifer will likely stick with Lopez for her professional brand.

And while her thoughts about last names may have remained the same, the couple’s low-key Vegas wedding suggests their approach to their relationship has changed dramatically.

It’s no secret that the media scrutiny surrounding their relationship, particularly during the lead up to their highly anticipated wedding, was the catalyst for their eventual split in the 2000s.

In fact, in Ben and Jane’s joint statement announcing their decision to cancel the ceremony, the couple revealed that the “excessive” interest had become so intense that they had to consider placing “decoy brides” in various locations to get rid of the ceremony. The media.

“When we found ourselves seriously considering hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ in three different locations, we realized something was skewed,” their statement read. “We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be jeopardized. We felt that what should have been a happy and holy day could be spoiled for us, our families, and our friends.”

And since reviving their romance in July last year, both Jennifer and Ben have spoken openly about their efforts to distance themselves from the same “brutal” criticism that ruined their relationship the first time around.

“It’s a beautiful second chance love story,” J. Low told People magazine in February. “Before we put some kind [our relationship] There we were two plates and he trampled on them a little.”

“We’re older now, smarter, we have more experience, we’re in different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of these things,” she continued. “We are very protective because it is a beautiful time for all of us.”

And so, with all this in mind, Ben and Jane’s low-key celebration in Vegas, while surprising for a couple of their caliber, makes perfect sense—and perhaps indicates a conscious effort to walk away from the familiar hype.
