Federal police have stated that a man from Texas kidnapped a rideshare driver and, holding the driver at gunpoint, made him travel over 1,000 miles to South Florida.
According to a statement released Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, the terrifying incident took place on Friday night when 23-year-old Miguel Alejandro Pastran Hernandez asked a ride-share company to pick him up from a closed gas station close to Arlington, Texas.
“Pastrana Hernandez pulled out a gun and the victim heard a round being chambered in the firearm,” federal prosecutors stated at the pick-up site.
“Pastrana Hernandez threatened to tie up and put the driver in the back of the vehicle,” according to the report. “Pastrana Hernandez then ordered the victim to drive to Florida, through multiple states.”
According to an affidavit supporting a criminal complaint, the victim continued driving until Saturday morning, when Pastran Hernandez ordered the driver to contact their children and pretend to be on a lengthy work trip while passing through Louisiana.
According to the lawsuit, Pastran Hernandez found out the driver had a 9 mm gun in the car at the same time and took it.

According to the complaint, Pastran Hernandez and the driver reached Florida late on Saturday night. The following day, they traveled to Miami Beach, where Pastran Hernandez allegedly spotted a possible second victim.
According to authorities, Pastran Hernandez gave the driver orders to go to a Hialeah store on Monday to get items for a second kidnapping to demand ransom.

Pastran Hernandez was apprehended and discovered carrying a bag containing a loaded firearm, according to authorities, after the driver managed to evade his capture while at the store.
According to the complaint, Pastran Hernandez had the intention of abducting another individual and holding them for a ransom of $3 million.
The federal court heard allegations against Pastran Hernandez on Tuesday regarding kidnapping, carjacking, and the use of a pistol in connection with a violent crime. Prosecutors stated that he was ordered to be held.
No remark was heard from Pastran Hernandez’s public defender on Thursday night.
The hearing for his pretrial detention is set for Monday. Arraignment is scheduled for September 3, according to prosecutors.
The distance between Arlington and Hialeah is over 1,300 kilometers.
