An 80-year-old dog walker was killed and his car was hijacked near the corner of East Harrison Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard East in Seattle, according to police.
According to the police, the dogwalker who was attacked wrestled with the perpetrator and was dragged as he ran away around 9:55 a.m.
The victim was lying in the street, receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from a passerby when the police arrived. Upon arrival, Seattle Fire continued medical treatment, but to no avail.
According to police and locals who spoke with KIRO 7 crews, numerous passers-by tried to stop the fleeing suspect.
“A man shouting, ‘Get out of the car!’ was driving north with a baseball bat. “Get out of the car!” exclaimed Bonita Bilton, a passerby at the time. He shattered the window pane.
The fleeing suspect persisted in driving, colliding with at least one vehicle along the way.
“I was so anxious that I couldn’t even unlock my phone, and I was trying to call 911,” Bilton explained.
The police are still searching for the culprit, who allegedly fled in the stolen vehicle.
Several dogs bolted from the scene, according to neighbors who spoke with KIRO 7 news. A local homeowner rescued one of the canines and had it scanned for a microchip at an urgent care clinic.
Ruth, the victim, was a much-loved member of the neighborhood, according to her neighbors, who had been Ruth walking dogs for decades.

Trying to defend other people’s animals makes her feel horrible, and it’s not fair, as neighbor Laura Dynan put it.
Ruth has known her dog walker friend Charlene Smith for more than three decades.
“She was a wonderful person—full of joy, and the dogs and everyone who knew her adored her,” Smith remarked. More than that, she was a caring human being with an abundance of empathy for animals and those who care deeply about them. Her integrity and honesty were impeccable.
This is the latest instance, according to several neighbors.
According to Daphne Romero, who works less than a mile away, “Everyone feels unsafe” after another violent event occurred at her workplace not long ago. Our store was the scene of a shooting last week. My car has been taken twice since we moved to this neighborhood.
Her son is pleading with her to get out of Seattle, Romero said.
Mark Clouse, a neighbor, informed the KIRO 7 news crew that he just obtained a concealed carry permit.
He just wanted to be ready, he remarked.
Upon receiving a report from Seattle Animal Control regarding the discovery of a deceased canine at the Brighton Playfield, close to the 3900 block of South Juneau Street, SPD promptly responded at 3:05.
The stolen vehicle was reportedly found nearby by the responding officers. The suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown to the police.
