Apple is planning to release the second generation AirPods Pro this fall, and it’s rumored to feature a new design, improved sound quality and some potentially healthy integration, according to Apple. Bloomberg Mark Gorman.

As Gurman wrote in his latest Power On newsletter:

Look out for the new AirPods Pro in the fall. The current model has been on the market since the fall of 2019, so it’s possible that batteries are already on the hook for some early users. Also look for updated AirPods Max with new colors (and hopefully the ridiculous low price of $550 for these headphones).

The AirPods Pro‌ have not been updated since its launch in 2019, and multiple rumors have suggested its launch this year. Gurman’s claim about the fall launch is in line with information previously shared by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the launch will take place in the second half of the year. The new AirPods Pro‌ could feature a more compact design that removes the stem, along with a new charging case and support for lossless audio via a new protocol.

For AirPods Max, Apple is not expected to work on the second generation model of headphones launched in December 2020. Instead, Apple is believed to be working on new color options. Today, Gorman said the new colors are still in the works but didn’t give a timeline for when they might be released.
